History of
THE BLACK BOX
The Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC), a nonprofit arts organization founded in 1991 and committed to the professional development of emerging artists, opened THE BLACK BOX in 2014. Years of fundraising and a matching grant from the MA Cultural Facilities Fund funded the renovation of the building.
After years of producing theater in numerous spaces, FPAC conducted a facility feasibility study in 2001. The opening of THE BLACK BOX in 2014 brought to fruition the goal of the Franklin Performing Arts Company to have a performance home of its own. THE BLACK BOX is now the anchor of the Massachusetts-designated Franklin Cultural District.

PRESENTING
THE BLACK BOX presents a wide variety of entertainment – live music, concerts, cabaret, comedy, and dance performances. THE BLACK BOX Music Series includes Jazz, Classical, Broadway, R&B, Rock, Country, and Pop programming featuring national acts while promoting the best of MetroWest. THE BLACK BOX is the MyFM Quest for the Best winner for Best Concert and Live Music Venue.
Producing
The Franklin Performing Arts Company is an Equity Small Professional Theater company in residence at THE BLACK BOX. The Franklin Performing Arts Company produces three musicals and two plays each season featuring Broadway stars, New York and locally-based professionals, emerging artists, and talented student apprentices. Season ticket packages are available.
Special Events
THE BLACK BOX calendar includes community events as well as fundraisers supporting the efforts of the Franklin Performing Arts Company. FPAC participates in Franklin’s Harvest Festival and Strawberry Stroll. The annual Culinary Cabaret fundraiser showcases area restaurants, uniting the culinary and performing arts. FPAC’s annual GALA supports the company and THE BLACK BOX.
